Director – DTC Sales & Operations – Oregon

The Director – DTC Sales & Operations – OR will oversee tasting room, wine club, e-commerce, and events growth strategies via leadership and program development and implementation. This position will be a key stakeholder in meeting DTC revenue goals through successful sales strategy development for Oregon brands and tasting spaces.

THE ROLE

Financial oversight & Responsibilities

  • Develop overall sales strategy to meet and exceed sales goals while delivering remarkable guest experiences.
  • Analyze internal and external business trends and create business-building programs that fit within corporate goals and enhance revenue opportunities.
  • Analyze sales performance and traffic monthly and quarterly, share analysis and implement action plans to drive growth and/or needed improvement.

Staff Leadership

  • Provide direct leadership for DTC & Retail manager group, including Tasting Room, Hospitality and Consumer Sales Manager roles in Direct Sales – Oregon brands.
  • Guide team culture and performance, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within all DTC functions and with internal and external partners.
  • Lead management team in the creation, evaluation and updating of new hire and ongoing staff training materials and methods, ensuring effective initial integration and long-term development of staff.

Program & Operation Management

  • Identify approach and ensure implementation of winery events and experiences in support of traffic, sales, and wine club goals ensuring offerings align with budgeted amounts and desired consumer experience.
  • Ensure support in creating and updating tasting notes and educational materials in partnership with Marketing and SMWE Education team.
  • Partner with winemaking operations and President – OR on growth planning and wine release timing for key event, large format offerings, and wine clubs.

THE CANDIDATE

  • Passionate about wine and customer service, creating memorable experiences appropriate to a luxury environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills; able to see big-picture perspective and manage resources and priorities to ensure success of the team and organization.
  • Ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders involved in the business including marketing, creative, and winemaking.
  • Adept communicator, able to ensure clarity of messaging across teams and functions, including polished public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to motivate and train staff in service standards, wine knowledge, sales skills and technical skills.
  • Effective leader with proven track record of building revenue and profit.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Advanced sommelier certification and wine industry experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of retail experience, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to motivate and train staff in service standards, wine knowledge, sales skills and technical skills.
  • Strong technical computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and POS systems.
  • Flexible availability including evenings and weekends.
  • History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
